Meet the team behind the lakes.

Cory Haggar - General Manager

As General Manager, Cory will oversee all elements of the resort operations including, golf, accommodations, food & beverage, finance and special events.

Cory brings over 30+ years of experience in the hospitality industry where he first started off working in the hotel side of the industry working for Holiday Inn, Sandman Hotel group and Fairmount Hotels & Resorts. In recent years Cory has worked at several of Canada’s premier golf resorts, Including Cobble Beach Resort, Owen Sound, Ontario and Falcon Crest Lodge, Canmore, Alberta. Cory has played a vital role in growing these resorts and their successful business operations. Cory sees untapped potential at The Lakes Cape Breton and can’t wait to get on the ground full time. Cory will be back and forth between Cape Breton and Ontario as he transitions out of Cobble Beach located in Owen Sound, Ontario.

Matt Blackburn - Superintendent

Matt grew up working and playing golf at New Ashburn Golf Club, in Windsor Junction. While working there he attended Dalhousie Agricultural College, in Truro, and graduated with an honours degrees in Horticulture with a concentration in Turfgrass. After graduation he moved to Florida and spent a year as Assistant Superintendent at Stoneybrook Golf Club in Fort Myers.  Matt then decided to move home to Nova Scotia and was Assistant Superintendent at Oakfield Golf and Country Club in Oakfield, NS for six years. Upon seeing a new project an opportunity at The Lakes he moved his young family to Cape Breton and was involved in the initial construction, responsible for the initial grow in of the Lakes and has been overseeing the spectacular property ever since.  Matt and his team work tirelessly to maintain immaculate course conditions and first-class standards for all members and guests. 

Stuart Kidon - Manager of Golf Operations

Stuart joins The Lakes Team in 2021 as a proud PGA of Canada member with over 15 years of vast experience in Resort, Semi-Private, and Private golf clubs across Canada. Stuart was raised in Mississauga, Ontario playing and competing in different levels of junior golf until he was 18 years old. An avid golfer and having played 58 out of the top 100 courses in Canada,  Stuart is also a Detroit Red Wings fan, Chelsea Football Club Supporter, and Brooklyn Nets fan (New Jersey Nets fan before). Outside of sports you can catch Stuart and his dog Britta on hiking trails and parks across Cape Breton in the summer months enjoying what the beautiful island of Cape Breton has to offer. 

Anne MacNeil - Head of House Keeping & Facilities

Born and raised in Montreal, Que, Anne moved to Cape Breton Island 22 years ago and has been working in the hospitality industry for over 20 years.  Anne is in her fifth season with the property. Anne has a reputation for treating everyone the same whether they are royalty, rock stars or colleagues, she is well known for her high standards and kindness.

Lindsey MacIntosh - Director of Development Ben Eoin Development Group

Lindsey, a native of Barrie Ontario has a background in community economic development, event and project management, and sport and recreation. Lindsey holds both a Sport Management Degree Master in Business Administration, with a concentration in Strategic Leadership from Cape Breton University as well as holds a Diploma in Project Management from the University of Dalhousie.  Lindsey is responsible for developing the strategic vision to guide the future growth and development at The Lakes at Ben Eoin Golf Club & Resort. Lindsey currently holds the role as Director of Development for the Ben Eoin Development Group and will be providing leadership to the team at the lakes through the implementation of strategic priorities. Lindsey has chosen to make Cape Breton home for her and her young family.
